Where Hamburg tastes best

Our favourite places in Hamburg

From down-to-earth to extraordinary – Hamburg has a lively restaurant scene that goes far beyond fish sandwiches and sailor’s fare. These places have won us over and are always on our list.

Restaurants near the holiday home

  • Kajüte SB 12: Simple and delicious, tables right on the beach in the sand
  • Op’n Bulln: Simple and delicious, the best view of the ships, right on the water
  • FISCHclub Blankenese: Very tasty (they also serve meat!), right on the water
  • Rudolph: German-Austrian cuisine, unfortunately only open on weekdays and only in the evenings. Very good wines. Guaranteed tourist-free.
  • Witthüs im Hirschpark: Very tasty, great Sunday brunch

Restaurants in Hamburg

Make sure to book a table!

  • VLET in der Speicherstadt: my favourite restaurant, new German cuisine, beautiful modern interior in historic walls, not exactly cheap
  • Café Paris next to the City Hall: my second home. Very French, great atmosphere, always packed
  • Brasserie Tortue in the city centre: fantastic food, wines and atmosphere. Upper price range.
  • i Vigneri in the city centre: the best Italian restaurant in the city. Everything is just right here. Upper price range.
  • Estancia in the city centre: a paradise for meat lovers. Delicious.
  • Vienna in Eimsbüttel: hidden gem. Magical atmosphere, tables packed closely together, delicious, uncomplicated (reservations are not possible here, best to arrive around 6.30 pm)
  • The Table in HafenCity: Hamburg’s only 3-Michelin-star restaurant. Some guests fly in from New York just to dine with Kevin Fehling (expect a lead time of 6 months to secure a table). A truly extraordinary experience (I actually had the privilege of dining there once)!
